It's no secret to anyone that I work with, that I love WoW. They could care less. The closest I get to anyone understanding comes in two forms; a co-worker's ex husband was addicted to WoW (she hates it), and my boss loves Sci-Fy stuff. That's it! So in the days leading up to Cata, I would talk about how the world I've played in for the last 4 years was being turned on its head. My co-workers did make fun of me (in a nice way). Now, don't get me wrong, these people are down to earth. They are great people who care about me very much. They even went as far as to "schedule" a store meeting for everyone, but it turned out to be a baby shower for my wife. I love my work crew and maybe one day I can get some of them to play the game with me.

One of my best friends (who is also a co-worker) did attempt to play. He came over right before Christmas (our kids and his kids exchanged presents). While our wives chatted it up, we quietly exited the room and I went to show him the ropes. I showed him all the different races, how he could make each his own. He ended up picking a Blood Elf Death Knight. He made her before I had a chance to tell him how difficult that would be, but he got into it. He had been thrown into a world he'd never seen.. Where millions of people ran about doing their own thing and he could interact if he wanted to. We played for a little while, and I answered any questions he came up with. A while later, it was time for them to leave. I think I was more disappointed then the kids where. We said our good byes and then it was time to get the kiddos in bed. I hope I've planted a seed. I hope one day I'll hear him say, "Jacob, I've bought WoW." That will be a glorious day. I know if I can get one hooked, I'll hook some more.
I'm sure there are others out there that have run into similar situations. What are your stories?? I'd love to hear some !
I have a coworker who was actively avoiding WoW because he'd left it for other games, but came back for Cataclysm. We occasionally discuss it at work, but our in-game interests are varied enough (not to mention we play opposing factions) that we don't always relate to the other's fascinations.
